(10/13) The Matrix Conclusion

In class today we had our red v. blue pill debate. While I was personally was on the side of the red pill, I sympathized with a lot of the arguments made by the blue pill side. I thought that perhaps the strongest argument that the blue pill side made was the famous saying, "ignorance is bliss". This obviously heavily supported their point for taking the blue pill and thus not gaining true consciousness. However, the red pill side argued that it takes courage to fully face reality, and that you must do so to fix the problem. In closing I made the remark that I think both sides have really solid points and that it's not ideal either way, it is instead the version of reality you are comfortable living with. I truly believe this point, and agree with the French way of teaching critical thinking, as illustrated by Professor Santiago.

Favorite, "Love, Death, and Robots", Film - POP SQUAD

     My favorite film from the Netflix series, " Love, Death, and Robots ", was, " Pop Squad ". I personally really enjoyed, " Pop Squad ", because of the commentary it made on American Culture, our obsession with youth, as well as its reference to American Individualism.      Americans have long been known for our sense of individualism, both as a country and as single participants in society. I found that this notion was reflected back to us in, " Pop Squad ", when the upper echelon made comments on the less fortunate being that way because of their own actions. The idea of every person being solely responsible for their standing in society goes back to the beginning of America, and is arguably one of our founding principles. Furthermore, the American obsession with youth was also touched upon. Introduction

My name is Evan Fleming and I am a senior studying Entrepreneurship at UTampa. I came to UTampa on the pre-med track, however, I quickly realized that was not for me. I have really enjoyed being a part of the business college and look forward to graduating this upcoming Spring. I also run the FAB LAB on campus and am the Vice President of the Honors Executive Board. With my last two semesters at UTampa I have decided to start a pop-culture magazine entirely run by UTampa students called, NERO MAGAZINE. In my free time, I enjoy traveling and hanging out anywhere with beautiful water or in a big city. Furthermore, I am excited for the wide range of material in this class. I am not really a sci-fi person but the way the Professor has explained the material sounds very interesting. I am also interested in exploring the wide-span impact of the media on larger society. I am also looking forward to the group projects and collaboration present throughout the class.

(9/22) - Philip K. Dick

Philip K. Dick was an American Sci-Fi writer who produced 44 novels and 121 short stories over the course of his professional career. Dick's most prolific works include, "The Man in the High Castle", "Do Android's Dream of Electric Sheep", and 'Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said'. As we have covered in class, Dick's, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", was adapted into the 1982 film, "Blade Runner". As if not already an eclectic personality, Dick focused his later career on the subjects of theology, metaphysics, and reality. Along with his illustrious career, Dick was known for his frequent drug use and paranormal experiences, although it is almost certain that the two were linked. Furthermore, Dick's work continues to inspire movies, the most recent being the 2015 Amazon Prime Series based off of his work, "The Man in the High Castle".
